In Okinawan karate Hojo Undo training is largely associated with Goju-Ryu and Uechi-Ryu, although it is found in the routes of all Okinawan styles. Hojo Undo is a very important part of advanced Karate training and benefits the strengthening of tendons and muscle in numerous areas of the body. The old masters would train daily with Ishi Sashi to help strengthen and focus their techniques and believed that by building the hard to train muscles in the back and around the ribs this would help protect the bodies internal organs in combat.

'Hojo Undo' means literally "supplementary training", in Okinawan dialect. These should be practiced as often as possible in order to achieve effective techniques and to prepare the body and mind for combat situations. Hojo Undo is one of the things that separates traditional Okinawan karate from sport karate or westernised karate, Hojo Undo equipment is used to strengthen and prepare ones physique so that techniques can be delivered with devastating effectiveness without causing any harm to the karate-ka, yet rendering the attacker incapable of continuing his attack. The aim is to achieve the one blow - one win situation.

Various traditional training aids are used for 'Hojo Undo'. We currently specialise in producing Tetsu Sashi, Kongo Ken & Tekkan.
